Medical visa for India from Kenya

No agent may submit your medical visa application
For medical visas, documents may only be presented or collected by one of the attendants or a close relative carrying a signed letter of authority from the applicant. The mission states that no application will be accepted from a third party in any circumstance. There is no outsourced visa centre — Nairobi processes in-house, by appointment, with biometrics in person.
Which visa you can apply for
Kenya is on India's e-Visa eligible list, so you may apply online for an e-Medical visa — or use the paper Medical (MED) visa if it suits your route better.
Processing time
Paper visas are normally processed in 3–5 working days. If you are not normally resident in Kenya or do not hold a Kenyan residence permit, processing may take longer, the fee may differ, and extra documents may be asked for.
Validity
Paper MED: up to 6 months (single or multiple entry) or 6 months to 1 year (multiple). For the e-Medical visa the official portal contradicts itself — the category table says 365 days, its FAQ says 60 days. Confirm on your grant letter. The e-Medical Attendant visa is 60 days from arrival.

Medical attendant visa
Up to two attendants, at the same fee as the patient. Proof of relationship with the attendant is required, though the qualifying relationship is not defined officially.
Vaccination certificates
A yellow fever certificate is mandatory — Kenya is on India's endemic list, and without it you may be quarantined for up to 6 days. Polio vaccination is NOT required: the mission states explicitly that oral polio vaccine is not needed for travel from Kenya to India.
Documents you need
As published by High Commission of India, Nairobi. Missing any one of these is the most common reason a medical visa application is rejected.

- 2Two recent 51×51 mm photographs, white background — one pasted on the form, one attached
- 3Letter of invitation from an approved hospital or recognised doctor in India
- 4Medical documents establishing the need for treatment in India, with a local hospital or doctor referral letter, emailed to the mission
- 5Proof of funds — three months of bank statements, a salary certificate, or a sponsorship/insurance letter; if the statement belongs to someone else, a financial undertaking and proof of relationship

- 7A medical visa undertaking stating the purpose of the visit and your return home after treatment
- 8For minors, consent from both parents
- 9For follow-up treatment, previous medical papers and the discharge summary from the Indian hospital

- 11Valid yellow fever vaccination certificate, given at least 10 days before travel by a government-approved provider
The hospital invitation letter
Required, and Kenya asks for more detail than most: the letter must give the names of patient and attendants, passport numbers, the illness, the duration of treatment AND the estimated cost of treatment. The hospital must email it directly to the mission, not merely hand it to the patient.

An emergency fee of US$35 (KSh 4,520) applies in addition. Payment at the Bank of India, Kenyatta Avenue, or at the High Commission by M-Pesa, Mastercard or Visa.
FRRO registration
Register with the FRRO/FRO within 14 days of arrival only if your visa is valid for more than 180 days. Children under 12 are exempt.
