Cancer treatment cost in India for Nigerian patients
Radiotherapy capacity in Nigeria is limited and waiting times are long, which is why many patients travel for oncology rather than delay starting treatment.
What it costs, and where else you could go
India compared with the two markets patients most often price against. All figures are typical self-pay private ranges, in US dollars.
| Where | Typical price | Difference vs India |
|---|---|---|
| India | $3,000β$20,000 | β |
| United States (private) | $80,000β$150,000 | up to $147,000 more |
| United Kingdom (private) | $50,000β$100,000 | up to $97,000 more |
We do not publish a price for Nigeria itself, because no reliable published price list exists for private treatment there. Where the procedure is available locally, ask your own hospital for a written estimate and compare it against the Indian quotation we send you. Figures here are indicative and are not a quotation.
Your visa, in short
The rules that apply specifically to Nigerian patients, taken from High Commission of India, Abuja.
Which visa and what it costs
Nigeria is not e-Visa eligible β you need the paper Medical (MED) visa. US$585 plus US$3 Indian Community Welfare Fund levy β a flat reciprocity rate that applies to ALL Indian visa categories and durations for Nigerian nationals, roughly seven times the standard US$80 medical rate. Payable in Naira only, in cash, at the Sterling Bank counter inside the mission. Dollars are not accepted.
Attendants and vaccinations
Up to two attendants. The attendant pays the same flat US$585 + US$3, because the Nigerian fee table covers all categories at one rate. Proof of relationship between patient and attendant is required, though the qualifying relationship is not defined officially.
Both yellow fever and polio certificates are mandatory. Nigeria is on India's yellow fever endemic list β without a valid certificate you can be quarantined for up to 6 days, and missions generally issue visas only after the certificate is produced. Nigeria is also listed by the Health Ministry among countries with poliovirus circulation, so an OPV or IPV certificate is required.
Nigerian nationals are not eligible for the e-Visa
The High Commission states plainly that there is no e-Visa facility for Nigerian nationals. Only 'Niger Republic' appears on the eligible list β not Nigeria. You must apply for the paper Medical visa.
The fee is US$588, not US$83
Nigeria pays a flat reciprocity rate for every Indian visa category. Budget roughly seven times the standard medical visa fee, in Naira cash, and note that the fee is the same for each attendant.
